Even with plans in the 30% design stage at the Maryland State Highway Administration (MDOT-SHA), I strongly encourage the City to add the trail connection between the Trolley Trail and Anacostia Tributary Trail along Route 1 as a priority in the Hyattsville Transportation Plan. One of the summaries of the plan describes it as determining priorities for the next 20 years. This trail connection is, arguably, the most important project to improving the bicycle network in the City and the immediate region. Including the connection as a priority recognizes and acknowledges the importance of connecting these trails; and, including it as a transportation priority gives the City and other stakeholders further support to push MDOT-SHA for its completion. The fact that the MDOT-SHA is at the 30% design stage would suggest there's little downside to the City for including such an important priority in the transportation plan. Best case scenario, the SHA completes the trail in 2020/2021, and the City gets to acknowledge one of its transportation priorities as completed.
