Yes, very much. However, we need better playing fields and the resources to maintain and manage them. All of our practice parks should be within walking distance of players' homes.

Absolutely yes!
I think that even just with the field(s) at Magruder Park, we could run an all-ages slow pitch softball league. Or kickball.
We could even experiment with a tennis ladder/tournament, etc.

Why not team with a company like United Social Sports or another that already runs sports leagues? The city should be spending its funds on improving streets, lighting, sidewalks, and public spaces instead. If there's interest in sports leagues, you could just create a website where people could organize their own activities.

My kids are involved in various sports, primarily lacrosse, and it takes a lot of work to run a league. I'm not sure having city-operated leagues would be the best use of resources. What could be greatly improved are the playing fields and increasing the number. Drainage is a major problem and perhaps a turf playing field would be a better choice. The far baseball field seems underutilized so converting that into a grass or turf field would help increase field space. The field behind the skate park is not in good shape either.

I think this would be really cool. Although I am not a huge sports fan, I do recognize how sports can help bring a community together. I would definitely support the effort. Even if we had a "for-fun" CO-ED softball team, I would try to participate as I love to play. If this exists, I did not know about it.....

I would really like the city to have more resources for children, esp. kids at the ages of 10-15. High schools have plenty of sport activities for afterschool participation, but middle school grades, much less so and many of those kids are on their own afterschool while their parents work. Sports leagues or other activities, something very similar to what Greenbelt offers its residents, would help build community. If the city doesn't have the budget to organize sports leagues, a simple solution might be to post all of the local available sports and activities with a link on the city's webpage. It would make it easier for parents to sign up their kids by having the information in one location.
