Discussion: Community Choices

In preparation for the second round of community workshops, we are asking residents for feedback on a handful of issues. We appreciate your responses below. Also, don't miss the workshops where the community will prioritize these topics and much more.

Tuesday/Martes, Nov. 1, 7 p.m., Felegy Elementary - 6110 Editors Park Drive

Saturday/Sabado, Nov. 5, 10 a.m., City Building - 4310 Gallatin Street

En preparacion para los proximas talleres comunitarias, estamos pidiendo retroalimentacion en unos asuntos. Gracias por compartir sus opiniones abajo. Tambien, acompañenos en los talleres en que la comunidad prioritizara estos asuntos y mas.

(Open green space, skate park, dog park, community garden, water feature, formal garden, outdoor games, playground, or something else?)

all you've listed, plus water fountains, maintenance of water fountains once they're installed and public restrooms (ideally, composting toilets).

I would like to see dog parks. I also think some exercise equipment would be nice. I also really like this large public xylophone installed in Savannah: http://savannahnow.com/news/2013-06-22/city-installs-public-xylophone-forsyth-park

Kid-friendly water features seem to be a real winner wherever they are installed (Silver Spring, Yards Park DC, UTC, etc.). In my dream-world... a challenge course!

Along with the splash pad for kids, please provide some benches and evening lighting.

I would very much like to see a senior playground (as described here: seniorplanet.org/playgrounds-for-seniors, in one of our parks (maybe Magruder makes the most sense.) As the article explains, it's free, it's social, it's outside, it's healthy, it's fun!

I LOVE the idea of multi-generational parks.

Can we make the official name of the park at 40th and Nicholson the "No Ball Playing Park" or "No Fun Park"? The sign that used to be there was hilarious.

Seriously, I'd like to also see excercise equipment, water features and also spaces and structures that would encourage community like chess/checkers tables, well designed seating. Bad examples maybe, but things that say fun, relax and interact across the age spectrum.
