I am an architect and VP of Docomomo DC, which stands for the Documentation and Conservation of Buildings of the Modern Movement. I oppose the demolition of the WSSC building. The original buildings is an example of late art deco. It’s 1953 wing is an outstanding example of local midcentury modern architecture. Public interest in midcentury modern is growing. In just a few years’ time the loss of this building will be looked back on as a missed opportunity for the city and the region.
