Hello. I am unable to attend the meeting of March 1 so I am registering my strong support of ordinance 2017-02, designating Hyattsville as a sanctuary city and prohibiting city participation in any registry of residents based on protected classes.
I cannot make this meeting but feel VERY strongly that Hyattsville, inline with the county, becomes a sanctuary city. Sanctuary cities encourage good relationships between community members and law enforcement & protect our community against the unfair targeting of immigrants happening across the country. Immigration is a federal responsibility and I believe that local officials can decide how much they want to cooperate with the government. We claim to be a welcoming community, let's prove it.

At Sunday's Community Conversation a few valid points came up that should be clarified for residents: 1) PG County is already a Sanctuary County and Hyattsville is just seeking to reaffirm our commitment to it. 2) Where does the term Sanctuary City fall short in terms of protection for vulnerable populations -- and what can we do to strength those protections with clearer language.
