Seriously behind the eightball on this (among other things) PG county! Our city should permit chickens and ducks to be raised in small amounts on our property (no roosters obviously). Just look how Takoma Park and DC have written codes and get on it!

Instead of asking what citizens think about the backyard poultry concept, yet not indicating any thought behind the implications, people in Hyattsville who want this and the Council need to read https://www.cdc.gov/features/salmonellapoultry/index.html. This URL explains the concerns of the Center for Disease Control (CDC) on the subject. Basically, how many chickens/ducks would be allowed, what rules (city ordinance rules) would be approved to keep someone that just lost their job from creating a backyard chicken farm, and how would those rules be enforced? This could easily turn into a public health hazard given our high population density and significant rainfall. Before Hyattsville makes a decision, the Council needs to do its homework and provide facts.
